Gov2u’s Executive Director, Vasilis Koulolias has been invited as a guest speaker at the Tunis Exchange Forum: a Euro-Mediterranean encounter for exchange and debate on citizenship, democracy, and intercultural dialogue in democratic transition. The conference is hosted by the Anna Lindh Foundation in the framework of the inter-Mediterranean initiative “Believe in Dialogue, Act for Citizenship”, and is taking place on the 23-26 June 2011. Around 150 participants are expected from both European and Arab countries.
Our presentation at the panel consists of highlighting the ways in which information and communication technology can act as an agent to enhance government responsiveness through citizen interaction, deliberation and e-participation. Mr. Koulolias will end by outlining some best practices cases tested in several Gov2u-led initiatives, such as Wegov and U@marenostrum, as they provide a good example of how ICT tools can be used to empower people and consolidate democratic practices.
Given the central role played by Information and Communication Technologies in the country’s recent democratic transition, we strongly support such initiatives which are designed to bring civil society actors together and partner up for future projects which promote dialogue and active citizenship using new technologies.
